Rapid Re-employment Training Service
Under the Rapid Re-employment Training Service, a rapid response team is deployed to a community when a public announcement is made regarding a major downsizing or closing. The response team is made up of representatives from relevant government ministries who will partner with community organizations, municipal government officials and union representatives to develop a service action plan.
The service Action Plan will detail the government's response to the announcement and will outline the roles of the service providers in the community who will be delivering the services. The action plan will be put in place within 30 days of the initial response. The action plan, which is available to the community, outlines the Ontario government's response to the closure by identifying programs and services available to workers including:
- Quick access to customized training, skills upgrading, job placement, income support and relocation services.
- Workplace literacy programs to support workers in learning new processes and technologies.
Adjustment Advisory Program
Through the Adjustment Advisory Program, the London Employment Help Centre (LEHC) works with the Ontario government, employers, employees, Action Centres and communities to develop strategies to cope with company downsizing or plant closures. Our new Outreach to Action Centre Office, located in Northland Mall at Huron and Highbury, will enable us to respond more effectively and efficiently to Adjustment Services needs.
What Services Are Available?
The Adjustment Advisory Program helps its clients to adjust to the effects of job loss in the workplace. The counsellors and advisers from LEHC assist clients to identify their needs and secure appropriate supports, including career counselling, training, referral, and job search skills training. We work with Adjustment Committees to ensure employee participation and "buy-in" to the process. Working closely with the Committee staff, we help to plan and implement any programs and services the staff and employees need, including job-search assistance, personal support in dealing with the stress of job loss, vocational and educational counselling, information on training, financial counselling, and information on starting a small business.
